When you load a GPU Card on a motherboard with an APU (APU with integrated Graphics), the BIOS automatically switches the Main Display GPU from Integrated to the GPU Card.

The integrated graphics card is permanently attached to the motherboard and cannot be removed. Using Device Manager, disable the integrated graphics card.

Step 1

  • Your machine should be restarted. Look for a message indicating a key to press to access the “Setup” or “BIOS” while the computer is conducting the POST (Power-On, Self-Test). The keys to control the BIOS on most computers are “ESC,” “F1,” “F2,” “F10,” or “DEL.”


  • To access your BIOS, use the arrow keys on your keyboard, and any instructions to change values. Look for the menu item that most closely resembles “Integrated Peripherals” or “On-Board Computers.” The “Advanced” option may also have a setting to disable the onboard graphics card. Click “Enter” after choosing the required menu object.


  • Press “Enter” to select the option that controls the on-board graphics card, then press the appropriate key to select “Disable.” Set your choice to “Yes” or “Activate” if it requires you to use an external video card. Choose the type of slot in which you mounted your new video card if your choices for the video card are “AGP,” “PCI-Express,” or “Integrated.” “Enter” is pressed.


  • Press “Esc” before you reach the main BIOS screen and have exited all menus. To “Save and Exit,” pick the option or press the appropriate function key. To confirm, click “Enter.” After the device has rebooted, connect the monitor to the new video card output port

There could be another choice. Make sure both of your GPUs are recognized and functioning properly in Device Manager, which can be found under Display.   • EDIT: Something other than your RX580 GPU Card may be causing your Integrated Graphics to work.

To switch off the Onboard Integrated Graphics, follow these steps:

 Enter the BIOS Setup menu.

  • Navigate to the Advanced Menu.
  • To get started, go to the Chipset Configuration Menu.
  • Select Internal Graphics from the drop-down menu.

 Disable the Internal Graphics Mode or choose PEG/PCI instead of Auto or IGFX for the Internal Graphics Mode. Set this off if you have a Multi Monitors option.

 Using BIOS or UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface)

  • To access the hardware configuration, boot to BIOS or UEFI. If your machine came with Windows 8, it is equipped with UEFI. Open the Charms bar, type “UEFI,” select “Settings,” select “Advanced Startup Options,” and then press “Restart now” under the “Advanced Startup” menu. Otherwise, during the boot splash screen, press the “Setup” key (usually “F1,” “F2,” “DEL,” “ESC,” or “F10”) to access BIOS.
  • Go into BIOS/UEFI and change the “main display adapter” setting to the desired display adapter. BIOS features, location of settings, and naming conventions differ from one device to the next. The terms monitor, adapter, graphics, card, video, board, integrated, computer, and controller will be used in the environment. Alternatively, set “Integrated Graphics System” to “Always Disable” to switch from built-in graphics to expansion card graphics.

Is the RX580 recognized in Windows Device Manager after installation?

SPECCY is free software that you can download and run. It will list all of the software and hardware you have installed, as well as the majority of the hardware’s Make & Models. Check to see if your RX580 is installed, or if the PCIe slot on your motherboard where the RX580 is installed is filled or in use. This is the reason if it does not appear in Device Manager under “Display” or in SPECCY as installed.

Is it okay to switch off the integrated graphics?

No way. It’s not a good idea. If you don’t have dedicated graphics, your laptop or desktop can not display anything. Even if you have a dedicated GPU, it will be disabled on laptops because onboard graphics are loaded first unless a very high 3d image is made.

Is it necessary to allow integrated graphics?

In the MSI motherboard bios, disable the onboard GPU.

  • Select Integrated Graphics Configuration from the drop-down menu.
  • PEG should be selected as the Initiate Graphic Adapter.
  • IGD Multi-Monitor should be set to Disabled.


You won’t be able to see anything if you don’t have a graphics card built and disable the integrated graphics. If you have a graphics card, make sure it’s linked to your display before disabling integrated graphics, which you shouldn’t have to do because it’ll be disabled and activated automatically.
