Wbengine.exe High Disk Usage Windows 10 [Solved]

There is a file named wbengine.exe on the computer’s hard drive, which is an executable. This executable file has machine codes. When you try to start the Microsoft Windows Operating System on the computer, it will execute the commands carried in wbengine.exe on your computer. Within the RAM, the file loads, and it works there as a wbengine.exe process.

Wbengine.exe process belongs to Microsoft Windows Operating System, which is from Microsoft Corporation. It is a non-system process that originates from software downloaded on your PC as most applications save data on the system’s registry or hard disk. It is possible that the computer has faced fragmentation and gathered invalid entries that may affect the system’s performance.

Press Ctrl + Shift and Esc buttons simultaneously to open Task Manager, where you can see what memory, disk, CPU, and Network utilization is creating the wbengine.exe process.

Wbengine.exe HIGH DISK USAGE WINDOWS 10

100% disk usage shows that the hard disk has reached its highest capacity, which means some task entirely occupies it. If high disk usage occurs, it means the sum of write/read speed has crossed the limit of 100 to 150mbps (which is a general speed).

Most users complain about this issue when they upgrade their system to Windows 10. As wbengine.exe is an executable hard disk file, the high disk usage will indeed affect its working too. This problem slows down the speed of the computer, which is very annoying for the users, so they should solve it as soon as possible. It is necessary to detect the problem (high disk usage) first to fix it quickly.

Quick Navigation

STEPS TO DETECT HIGH DISK USAGE:

First of all, right-click on the Taskbar then select Task Manager. In the first tab (Processes), there are several columns. You have to look for the Disk column to check if the problem is there or not. If it shows a percentage near to 100% (maximum capacity), it means you have detected the High Disk Usage problem, and there is no need to look for the remaining columns. The 100% disk usage may halt your computer even when you are not using any program.

After detecting the problem of High Disk Usage, you can fix it, only if you know how to do so. Here are some methods we have discussed in this article, which may help you fix the wbengine.exe high disk usage.

METHODS TO FIX wbengine.exe HIGH DISK USAGE

METHOD NO 1: REBOOT THE SYSTEM

Usually, when users face any issue or error, the first solution that comes in their mind (probably) is to reboot the system. The same is a tried and tested method, which, most of the time, solves the issues quickly. So, it can also apply to the high disk usage problem in Windows 10.

Make sure to choose the ‘Restart’ option because it starts your computer in a new state, and it might help fix the issue. On the other hand, there is a ‘shut down’ option, which does not solve the disk issue as it preserves the system state, and it only turns off the computer.

The rebooting of the system can help you get out of trouble, but it would not let you know its underlying reason.

METHOD NO 2: UPDATE THE WINDOWS

After rebooting, the most considerable solution that can fix the problem of any application or program is updating it to the latest version. So, if you are having a high disk usage problem with Windows 10, you need to update Windows 10 to the recent version of it.

When the problem arises in your hard disk, check if you are up to date to the new version of Windows 10, or is there any latest update available. To check the updates of Windows 10, go to the Windows settings app and open the ‘Update and Security’ section. In this section, you will view an option of Windows Update, choose it to complete the updating process.

It may not only resolve the high disk usage problem but can also improve the performance of your computer.

METHOD NO 3: CHECKING THE MALWARE

The malware and virus can create many problems in any application, program, or the whole computer system. So if you are facing the high disk usage issue, malware can be the reason behind it. First of all, you need to confirm that the computer is infected or not. If you have an Anti-virus software on the system, it ought to catch the problem already. But if the anti-virus software has not worked perfectly, force it to scan the hard drive for an infection. This scanning process can be time-consuming because the drive already has high usage, but it can be an essential step to identify the problem and remove the malware if found.

METHOD NO 4: DISABLE THE WINDOWS SEARCH

A widespread bug in Windows 8 or Windows 10 can create a search loop, which can be the reason behind the wbengine.exe high disk usage. Open the admin prompt and enter the command: net.exe stop “Windows Search”  to temporarily stop the facility of Windows Search. It will disable Windows Search until the Windows gets restart next time. After you temporarily disable Windows search, check if the problem is still there. If the wbengine.exe high disk usage is solved, it means windows search was responsible. It will be best if you disable it permanently. To do this, follow these steps

  • First of all, please press the Windows key and R key together then enter services.msc and click on enter.
  • It will open the services Window, choose the Windows search entry, and update its properties, double click it.
  • Under Startup type, choose Disabled and press OK to save all changes.

METHOD NO 5: DISABLE THE SUPERFETCH SERVICE

Windows  Superfetch service is a feature of Windows 10 that might cause the problem. To check if this feature is causing the issue, you can temporarily disable it. If the problem is solved, you should also change the settings and disable it permanently. You may temporarily disable this feature with the command: net.exe stop superfetch. If you want to disable it permanently, use the method you use to disable Windows search. But if the problem remains there, you don’t need to disable it.

METHOD NO 6: RESETTING THE VIRTUAL MEMORY WINDOWS 10

Virtual memory takes the hard disk as RAM, and while treating it as RAM, it swaps out all temporary files when running out of actual RAM. Errors in pagefile.sys can be responsible for high disk usage in Windows 10. Reset the virtual memory of Windows 10 to get out of the high disk usage issue by following these steps.

  • Open System Properties in your PC and then click on advanced system settings.
  • Now, a Performance section will appear on your computer screen, with an option of Settings, click it.
  • Choose the Advanced tab and press the Change button. A box will appear with the title ‘Automatically manage paging file size,’ make sure to check it.
  • Other than that, you can also choose ‘no paging file’ and then press OK and reboot the system. This process will improve disk performance in your system and also inhibit the virtual memory.
